We leave egos and jargon at the door – you won’t need to swallow the handbook of management consulting to understand us.

About Mark

Mark Hughes

Mark is a highly experienced senior level executive who has in the last two decades worked across multiple industries including:

  • in Defence as a chemical aircraft crash investigator
  • in the quality and assurance industry as a accredited systems auditor for National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA)
  • and in the last 12 years in the financial services arena for the ANZ bank.

At the ANZ, Mark worked with the Board of Directors and across multiple senior leadership teams and businesses to develop and implement the ANZ’s strategies to successfully compete in the future.

As part of this role, Mark successfully led and delivered the strategic design to converge the infrastructure in ANZ’s offshore operations hubs. This included leading multi-disciplinary teams across the Asia Pacific region to create new business to support the super regional aspirations of the bank. Mark was also instrumental in establishing ANZ’s backoffice operations in Asia in Manila & China.

Based on his extensive Pan Pacific, multi-industry and greenfield operational experience, Mark has developed a view that is radically different towards developing, driving and implementing strategy.

Mark appreciates and recognises that the key to great strategy starts with connecting to the essence of why your organisation exists. He has seen the word strategy defined numerous ways over the years. For example,

  • Is it just profit and market share?
  • Is it about redefining the mission and vision statements?
  • Is it just a laundry list of vague objectives or actions?
  • Is the strategy only for a chosen few at the top of the organisation or
  • Is there a different story to be told?

Based on this, Mark recognises that there is not a rigid formula for strategy. Mark focuses on building relationships and getting into the trenches where required to establish the relevant strategy for your organisation and connect it to its future.

Mark is a passionate one-eyed Richmond supporter in the AFL, and follows Washington in the NFL – but asks you to look past this - just like he will try and look past the fact if you are a Collingwood supporter....
